The day

Order of events

11:45

Guests arrive

If you are late you have to fight the manticore, and your chances of victory are slim.

12:30

Ceremony

Possibly the greatest moment of all our lives. It will be a privilege to have you there, bring tissues.

1:00

Drinks & canapés

Photographs, and a respectable amount of standing about with some music to fill the silence. You’ll be called through at half two for your interview.

3:00

Speeches, then dinner

Speeches first, wedding breakfast at half three. We aim to keep these short, because we all learned a lot from Leigh Shannan’s wedding.

6:30

Evening

If you have all been well behaved, then there will be cake. We have put on some evening food, organised a live band, and you can buy some beverages.

12:00

Carriages

Bar closes at midnight (ish). We are not providing transport to or from the venue, so please plan your travel and book your taxi now rather than at midnight.

Travel & taxis

Book the ride home before you need it

There are three taxi companies and roughly three thousand two hundred and five people who want one at midnight. So we’d advise you to pre-book, and give the driver the what3words or a good postcode. There is Parking on site for 60 cars, and you can leave it overnight, but there may be other guests at the venue so this could fill up quickly! Be Savvy!

Where to stay

Beds, in order of proximity

So you like sleeping, do you? We already knew that about you. So we’ve put together a list of places nearby that may provide you with a bed. We have heard that if there is no room at the inn, you are able to stay in a nearby stable.

Runa Farm roomsOn site—This may already be fully booked, as some people were quite rapid with this, sorry. But it’s worth a call up to see if there are rooms in the Smithy or the courtyard! The options below are all a short taxi away.

Rose & Crown, Romaldkirk18 min taxi£145Looks pretty nice if you ask us.
Premier Inn, Bishop Auckland28 min taxi£65We’re sure they call it a Premier Inn for a reason.

What to wear

Clothes you would wear to a wedding. Google it.

Suits and frocks, undies and socks. The ceremony is indoors, the food is indoors, the drinks are indoors, the dancing is indoors, but there is also an outdoors area where you could go, so perhaps some shoes.

June in the United Kingdom since climate change is either twenty-six degrees or raining sideways. So just bring a layer you’re happy to be photographed in by an expensive photo taking human. But we’re not precious, wear what you like. The only things we’d ask you to avoid are vantablack shirts as they ruin camera flashes or anything dazzling gold or shimmering silver as there have been magpies spotted nearby.

Gifts

You can’t spend a toaster.

We have had a house together for years, so we are not short of toasters. There is no gift list and no honeymoon fund. Your being there is the gift. If you would still rather give something, a bit of cash towards a honeymoon one day is very welcome, and please do not buy us anything else.

Question of the day – Are you coming?

One form per invitation, please, the names on your invite are the names we’ve got room for. We ask for a mobile number so we can text you if anything changes close to the day. And that’s genuinely all we’ll use it for.

Are you coming?
Which invitation do you have?

It says on your invite. Day guests are with us from the morning; evening guests join us later on.

Please keep this to the number invited on your invitation. Set it and we'll ask about each person below.

Anything we should know so the day works for you — step-free routes, seating, a quiet spot.

Well, that's a shame. We'll drink one for you.
All the logistics questions have gone away — there's nothing else you need to fill in.

Questions, answered

The FAQs

Can I bring the kids?

Our own children will be there, along with three flower girls, but otherwise we are aiming for grown-ups only. Take it as a rare chance to let your hair down, even if recently transplanted, without anyone needing the toilet halfway through the speeches, or having a meltdown because you cut up their carrot. If childcare turns out to be genuinely impossible, give us a ring and we’ll work something out.

Is there a free bar?

Until it isn’t. There’s a selection of beverages upon arrival and through the meal, after that it’s cash or card and your own conscience.

Is there food in the evening?

Yes, and quite a lot of it. Once the wedding breakfast has settled we're putting on a build-your-own burger bar: handmade beef, buttermilk chicken or a plant-based burger, local brioche buns, dry cured bacon, crispy onions, spicy and American cheese, lettuce, tomato, house slaw and a pile of seasoned skin-on fries, with rocket and parmesan or mixed salad alongside. Vegan and gluten-free versions are all available — put anything we should know in the allergies box on your RSVP and the venue can provide a full allergen list.

Can I bring a plus-one?

We have to give the venue a final number, and every extra place costs us, so we’ve kept it to named guests only. Your invitation says who it’s for. If you think we’ve got that wrong, just ask, we’d much rather sort it than have you wondering.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes. From memory, Runa Farm is mostly step-free and works well for wheelchairs, walking sticks and, we were assured, Segways. It’s part of why we chose this venue: we’ve seen how silly some of you get after a drink, and we wanted to minimise the risk.

What’s the phone signal like?

Better than you’d expect for a farm. But hopefully everyone you want to talk to will be there, so you’ll be fine.

Can I request a song?

Most of the evening is live music with a bit of a DJ slot at the end, so we’re not taking requests in advance. If there’s something you’re desperate to hear, have a word with the DJ on the night and see how you get on.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We’d rather you didn’t, we really want you to stare at us intently with your eyes as we sweat buckets saying our vows in front of all the people we’ve grown to love over the years. Also we’ve paid a photographer to capture it properly, so you might as well save your battery. But take as many as you like for the rest of the day.

When do I need to RSVP by?

By 10 January 2027 – see the RSVP section above.
